Smooth group for Greece in World Championship
Greece has had a rather smooth draw for the first round of the World Basketball Championship in Spain later this year, but its challenge will be far greater come the knock-out stages of the tournament.
The draw that took place on Monday in Barcelona placed Greece in the same pool (Group B) as Argentina, Puerto Rico, Croatia, Senegal and the Philippines, with the top four advancing to the second round.
That is where it will be really challenging for Greece, as it will face a knock-out game against one of the teams to finish in the top four of Group A, i.e. host Spain, Serbia, European champion France, Brazil, Iran and Egypt, for a place in the quarterfinals.
The tournament will take place from August 30 to September 14.
