PAOK opens Super League lead to five points

PAOK has opened a five-point gap at the top of the Super League after beating Ergotelis in Crete, while Olympiakos dropped two more points away from home, this time at Asteras Tripolis.

Two goals by Greece striker Stefanos Athanasiadis gave PAOK a precious 2-0 win at Ergotelis on Sunday that has consolidated the Thessaloniki team ahead of a month full of tough games such as the clashes with Panathinaikos at home on November 9 and with Olympiakos on December 3.

The Reds stumbled once again on the road on Saturday, as despite facing a ten-man Asteras Tripolis, they were unable to find the target, four days ahead of their clash with Juventus in Turin for the Champions League. Asteras, who hosts Tottenham on Thursday for the Europa League, was left with 10 from the 42nd minute when the referee showed Pablo Mazza his second yellow card, allegedly for playacting. The Tripoli team was the happier of the two with the 0-0 draw at the end.

Veria, in third, dropped its first points at home drawing 2-2 with Panionios, while Panathinaikos returned to winning ways downing Atromitos 2-0 at home, after a Nikos Lazaridis own goal and a Nikos Karelis strike after a one-two with Abdul Adjagun.

The game between Panetolikos and Xanthi offered fans at Agrinio seven goals as the host won 5-2. Argentine Lucas Villafanez (pictured) scored twice for Panetolikos, with William Edjenguele, Nicolas Martinez and Leandro Kappel also on target, while Christos Lisgaras and Adrian Lucero scored for the visitors.

The other three weekend games finished goalless i.e. the Platanias vs PAS Giannina, Panthrakikos vs OFI and Niki Volou vs Kerkyra.

On Monday fourth-placed Kalloni Lesvou entertain Levadiakos.
