Rival soccer fan clashes leave man stabbed

One man was stabbed and several others slightly injured as rival Thessaloniki club fans clashed late on Friday at an event held by Aris supporters.

Reports from Greece’s second city stated that some 50 people bearing wooden sticks and helmets stormed a store where Aris fans held an event and attacked them, using even a Molotov cocktail in the process.

Bloody clashes followed between the Aris fans and the gatecrashers (which local websites say were PAOK supporters), with the former chasing away the latter in the Thessaloniki streets, and one man suffering a stab wound at the back. He was taken to hospital and his wound was not found to be life-threatening.

When police arrived at the spot the rival fans had already dispersed. However it has reportedly detained at least 25 people suspected of participating in the clashes.

Later on Aris fans hurled stones at a PAOK fan clubhouse at Toumba, with police detaining 10 Aris fans for the incident.
