Stefanidi lands bronze at World Indoor Championships

Greece collected a medal from the very first day of the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Portland late on Thursday, as Katerina Stefanidi finished third in the women’s pole vault final.

The Greek champion cleared 4.80 meters to claim bronze in the championship, while another Greek, Nicole Kyriakopoulou was sixth with 4.60 meters.

Stefanidi’s medal was Greece’s 11th in the history of the competition.

In the men’s final Costas Filipidis could do no better than 5.65 meters, which landed him at the seventh place, as he relinquished his world champion title he had from 2014 in Sopot.

Greece takes part in the championships – that conclude on Sunday – with six athletes in total.
