Stefanidi smashes pole vault’s national record

Katerina Stefanidi registered a new national record in the women’s pole vault clearing 4.90 meters at the New York meeting this weekend.

The Greek pole-vaulter broke the 4.81m national indoor record that was just seven days old, from February 14, recorded by Nicole Kyriakopoulou.

Stefanidi’s jump over 4.90m was the second best indoor performance in the world so far this year.

The outdoor national record stands at 4.83m, so that was the best jump ever by a Greek athlete.
