Aris poses no problems to Olympiakos

Olympiakos emerged victorious from its challenge at Aris in Thessaloniki on Monday and remained tied at the top of the Basket League table with AEK, victor of Rethymo at home on Saturday.

Captain Vassilis Spanoulis distributed 11 assists and Olympiakos returned with a 70-63 triumph from one of its most difficult games on the road this season in the league.

Rival Panathinaikos did not face the problems Olympiakos previously had on Lefkada – the Reds had won 95-94 with a last-second basket – and defeated promoted Doxa on Monday with a 73-46 score, as the hosts scored less than half points than in their game with Olympiakos.

AEK made it five out of five with its 80-62 beating of fith-placed Rethymno, but the tough games are just about to begin for the Athens team, as on Saturday AEK will visit PAOK.

A tremendous game on Rhodes saw host Kolossos edge out improved Korivos Amaliadas 90-88 last Saturday, while PAOK defeated Lavrio 73-63 away for its fourth win in five.

Promoted Promitheas earned the Patra bragging rights with an emphatic 67-53 win at crosstown rival Apollon, in what was Apollon’s first ever home loss to another Patra club in professional league basketball.

On Sunday Kymi – that plays its home games at neighboring Halkida – saw of Trikala 78-67 to score its second victory.
