Greece ends 6th at Worlds

After looking like it could make it to the semifinals, and possibly beyond, the men’s national handball team finally ended sixth in the World Championships in Tunisia. Greece’s 37-26 loss to Serbia and Montenegro in Saturday’s placement match for fifth and sixth positions deprived the national team of improving its sixth placement garnered at the Athens Olympics. Midway through the first half, Serbia and Montenegro began establishing a lead that it never surrendered throughout the game’s remainder. Spain was crowned world champion with a 40-34 win over Croatia in last night’s final. In the preceding match for third and fourth places, France beat host Tunisia, 26-25.
