AEK star moves to Benfica

AEK midfielder Costas Katsouranis, a key member of Greece’s Euro 2004 winning side, signed a four-year deal with Portuguese club Benfica yesterday. The transfer, worth a reported 2.5 million euros, comes shortly after a move by AEK’s ex-coach Fernando Santos to the Portuguese club. Katsouranis is the second Greek player to join Benfica following Giorgos Karagounis, another Euro 2004 hero, who moved from Inter Milan last season. As part of yesterday’s deal, AEK and Benfica agreed to play a friendly match in Athens on August 1.
