PAOK signs up Brazilian Indio

Thessaloniki soccer club PAOK, currently fourth in domestic competition and seeking a UEFA Cup berth for next season, launched its activity in the winter season transfer market yesterday by signing Brazilian midfielder Nascimento on a six-month loan, it announced yesterday. A former international, «Indio» Nascimento was the first indigenous Indian to play for Brazil. Nascimento witnessed PAOK’s 2-0 home win over third-placed AEK on Saturday. «I saw the game against AEK and I really liked the atmosphere at the stadium,» said Nascimento. Nascimento was a member of the Brazilian team’s squad that won the FIFA World Club Championships title in 2000. The Brazilian, club sources said, would be given a few weeks to prepare for his PAOK debut later this month in a Round 19 away game against Ergotelis in Crete. PAOK lies fourth in Greece’s top league after 16 rounds of competition.
