Rival coaches meet on friendlier terms
Greek basketball’s NBA-styled ceremonial All-Star Game – an annual event to be held for the 15th successive season on Sunday – will bring two of the domestic league’s rival coaches, Zeljko Obradovic of Panathinaikos and Pini Gershon of Olympiakos, face to face on a friendlier level. The game will be played in Lamia, northern Greece. Obradovic, sided by PAOK coach Costas Pilafidis, will lead the game’s Greek Stars, while Gershon will team up with Aris coach Andrea Mazzon on the bench for The Rest of the World. Interestingly, Gershon will be up against his troubled Olympiakos star Sophocles Schortsanitis. A key player both for Olympiakos and Greece, Schortsanitis, currently severely overweight, has been warned by Gershon and the Piraeus club to either shape up or go.
