Credit card issuer Visa yesterday announced its sponsorship of the 2004 Athens Olympics in a joint press conference with Athens 2004, the organizers of the Games. In the photo, from right to left, are: Hans Van der Velde, president, Visa EU; former rower Steve Redgrave, a gold medal winner in each of the past five Olympics (1984-2000); Thomas Shepard, executive vice president for international marketing partnerships and sponsorship, Visa International; and Michael Payne, marketing director of the International Olympic Committee. Payne spoke of the ‘tremendous progress’ in the preparations of the Games during the past six months.
