Explosion fails to prevent soccer game
Some not-so-sporting fans in Greece occasionally find extreme ways to try to postpone soccer games when it suits them. After the sawing off of the goalposts at third-division club Ilioupolis earlier this year, a small bomb exploded last Saturday morning next to the soccer ground in the village of Kavasila, near the town of Amaliada in the western Peloponnese, clearly aimed at postponing the local amateur team’s match with Chavari FC, scheduled for later that day. The bomb did not cause any injuries but was meant to set off another much bigger device that was found next to it, which could have inflicted some serious damage to the village’s soccer ground. However, the game went ahead and the local Atromitos team won 3-1.
