Volleyball’s A1 league resumes

After a rather subdued All-Star Game last Saturday, the volleyball league resumes tonight with a full round of games. Although there is no top-of-the-table clash, there are several tricky games that deserve some attention. Leaders Panathinaikos and Iraklis will be facing crosstown rivals, with the Greens visiting Kifissia and the champions hosting PAOK. Olympiakos travels to Alexandroupolis to play local Ethnikos while EA Patras entertains Lamia. Milon greets Apollon Kalamarias in Nea Smyrni and Aris is set to clash with Finikas Syrou in Thessaloniki. On Saturday the adverse weather conditions meant there were fewer fans than expected in the stands of the Amaliada sports hall to attend the clash between the top Greek players against the best foreigners in the local league. The result was in the World All-Stars favor, 2-0 (25-21, 25-21). EA Patras’s Boyan Yordanov was voted the most valuable player of the game. The Bulgarian player also won the «Best Server» contest held between the two sets. Earlier on the night a Greek rookie all-star team beat the local side Korivos Amaliadas 2-0 (25-20, 15-13) in another exhibition game.
