Olympiakos to face northern opponent

Yesterday’s draw for the quarterfinals of Greece’s soccer cup appears to have been kind to Panathinaikos and AEK, who will face each other in the semis if they reach them, but was rather hard on Olympiakos. The holders will face the winner of the tie between Aris and PAOK in home and away games from next month. Aris and PAOK will again lock horns, at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium tomorrow (at 9 p.m.), following their goalless draw on January 14. Panathinaikos will face Panserraikos while AEK clashes with Skoda Xanthi, who last year managed to eliminate the Athens side. The fourth quarterfinal pits the winner of the Panionios vs Veria replay, also set for tomorrow (at 5.30 p.m.), against Asteras Tripolis. The team to emerge from this quarterfinal will play either Olympiakos, PAOK or Aris in the semifinals. The quarterfinal ties will be played on February 4 or 18 and on March 4, while the dates for the semifinals are yet to be confirmed. The final is set for May 2, at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, unless both sides to reach it are from northern Greece. If that is the case, the final will take place at the Kaftantzoglion Stadium in Thessaloniki.
