AEK signs French player on deadline

AEK has been desperate to add to its roster given its shortage of players on the left-hand side of the defense and yesterday acquired French defender Olivier Nsiabamfumu. The 23-year-old soccer player was a free agent so AEK could sign him after the end of the transfer period last week, although it appeared on Monday that the deal might not go ahead. The former France Under-19 international had spent the last few days on trial at AEK but it was rumored on Monday he would not be joining the Greek club. However, on the deadline day for free agent transfers AEK turned things around and decided to buy the player, pending a document from Ascoli, his previous club in Italy. AEK also came close to signing Argentine defender Matias Lequi on Monday, but the former Celta player refused to undergo a trial with the Athens club, according to AEK, or said he would not undergo a medical test, according to other reports. Lequi meanwhile knocked on Panionios’s door last night, but the Nea Smyrni club said it was not interested.
