Women’s track and field gala
The main events of the domestic track and field season begin today (3.45 p.m.) in Filothei with the 10th Women’s Gala, which will feature some big international names in the sport. The evening will feature six events and athletes as Russian Anna Pyatykh, Serbian Biljana Topic (both in triple jump), Russian Aleksandra Fedoriva (100-meter dash and hurdles) and Bulgarian Venelina Veneva (high jump). Topping the bill among the Greek stars will be pole vaulters Aphroditi Skafida, Nicole Kyriakopoulou and Dimitra Emmanouil as well as triple jumper Voula Papachristou and sprinter Maria Karastamati. The pole vault competition has particular significance for Greek athletes, as the first among them will represent Greece at the European Cup this summer.
