Two out of three in water polo Vouliagmeni and NE Patras have qualified to the last 16 in water polo’s LEN Trophy, the second-tier club competition in Europe, while Panathinaikos bowed out. Vouliagmeni, which hosted one of the round’s qualifying groups, managed to finish second and snatch a ticket for the next phase, thanks to its 9-7 victory over Dynamo Moscow yesterday. NE Patras also finished second, while Panathinaikos ended up third, after beating Galatasaray 13-11 yesterday. Kenteris-Thanou coach says ‘crash was real’ Two days before the repeatedly postponed hearing of the case about the allegedly faked accident that prevented sprinters Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou from providing urine samples on the eve of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, their then coach Christos Tzekos stated yesterday that the accident was not faked nor caused on purpose, and placed some of the blame about the pair’s no-show on the Hellenic Olympic Committee. On the weekend, Olympiakos thrashed EA Patras 3-0, Panathinaikos beat Panellinios 3-0 away, Foinikas Syrou scored its first win (3-2) over Kifissia, PAOK defeated Lamia 3-0 and AEK downed Apollon Kalamarias 3-1.
