Women’s water polo in major European splash
Greek women’s water polo is sweeping the continent, as two Greek teams, Olympiakos and Vouliagmeni, reached the Final-Four of the Champions Cup, which Vouliagmeni holds. Olympiakos eliminated Spain’s Sabadell and Vouliagmeni dismissed Italy’s Fiorentina on Saturday, and the domestic rivals will now have the chance to battle for the trophy on April 9 and 10. In the second-tier European Cup, the LEN Trophy, two other Greek teams have taken the first step toward reaching the final. On Sunday Ethnikos beat Widex Donk Gouda 10-8 in the Netherlands, while NE Patras defeated Russia’s Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk 11-10 at home. The return games are scheduled for March 6-7.
