European water polo splash for Ethnikos women’s team

The women’s water polo team of Ethnikos Piraeus on Saturday reached the final of Europe’s LEN Trophy by beating Widex Donk Gouda 8-6 at home. The Greek side also beat the Dutch team 10-8 in the Netherlands last month. Ethnikos will now face Khanty-Mansiys in the final, as the Russians saw off another Greek side, NE Patras in the semis. The first leg of the final will be in Russia on March 17 and the return in Piraeus on April 7. In the Champions Cup, whose Final-Four will be held on Corfu next month, the two Greek sides have been kept apart in the semifinals and could face each other in an all-Greek final. Yesterday’s draw has pitted Olympiakos with Kirishi from Russia and Vouliagmeni with Orizzonte Catania from Italy, who will battle it out on April 9 for a place in the final.
