Olympiakos beats Aris before Partizan
Olympiakos is in Paris preparing to face Partizan Belgrade in tomorrow’s semifinal of the Euroleague Final Four in basketball, after qualifying to the last four of the domestic league on Monday. The Reds defeated Aris 85-75 in Thessaloniki to sweep their opponent 2-0 in the quarterfinal series and set up a semifinal clash with Maroussi, which saw off Kolossos with an 87-72 score on Rhodes. Panathinaikos also swept Panionios, winning game 2 with an impressive 107-59 score away, in a game marred by the carrots and bangers that Panionios fans threw to the court, resulting in the evacuation of the stands during the third period of the match. Riots continued outside the court with extensive clashes between the home fans and the police. Panathinaikos has therefore won the best-of-three series 2-0 and in the next round the champion will face Panellinios. The Kypseli side fought off the strong challenge of PAOK with an 80-66 victory in Thessaloniki on Monday for a 2-0 win in the series. The best-of-five semifinals will start on Saturday, May 15, with Panathinaikos and Olympiakos enjoying home advantage.
