Ten people face charges over bogus 'default' e-mail

The police?s electronic crimes unit on Friday brought charges against 10 people for spreading false information in connection with a bogus e-mail that circulated last week purporting to be from a top banker with inside knowledge that Greece was going to default on March 25.

Police, who traced the original e-mail to a 45-year-old machinist on Crete earlier this week, said on Friday that the message was sent from the suspect?s office computer at 10.43 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9.

The e-mail was subsequently distributed by another nine people who have also been charged.
