Lawmakers who use Nazi imagery or salutes in the Greek Parliament will have their immunity lifted and will lose their right to stand for office under an anti-racism bill due to be be put to public consultation on Friday.
According to sources, the draft law will also ban MPs from politics if they are found to have been involved in racist violence. If a party leader takes part in a racist attack, then his grouping will lose state funding.
Justice Minister Antonis Roupakiotis said on Wednesday that one of the aims of the bill is to rein in far-right Golden Dawn. After the consultation period, the draft law will be submitted to Parliament. It is expected that this will take place before the end of the month.
