School guard car convoy to reach Athens on Friday
School guards from across the country were expected to join a car convoy heading to Athens and scheduled to reach the Ministry of Administrative Reform on Friday. The convoy, which took off from Alexandroupoli, northeastern Greece, on Thursday, was expected to pass through Thessaloniki and other cities before reaching Athens.
School guards are protesting the government’s civil service mobility scheme on reduced pay which ends on March 23.
Of the 2,000 school guards placed in the scheme in June last year, some 1,700 were facing dismissal, according to the government, while 330 were expected to be rehired in the health sector.
