Hirings outbalance firings in February, data shows

Salaried employment was on the rise in February according to data compiled by the Ministry of Labor’s Ergani database.

According to the report, which was released on Friday, hirings outbalanced firings by 19,912 paid positions in February. The database’s figures also pointed to hirings outbalancing layoffs by 26,309 people, during the January-February period, compared to a loss of 17,788 positions recorded during the same period the previous year.

Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis noted that the improved figures were a result of “organized intervention” through the implementation of programs for the unemployed as well as consistent and strict controls in the labor market.
