Metsovo authorities accused of squandering EU funds for mobile portal
Local authorities in Metsovo, a town in Greece’s Epirus region, are accused of squandering up to 230,000 euros from the European Union’s “Digital Convergence” program for the creation of a mobile portal.
During a recent inspection, experts found that the application was not in operation while parts of the necessary infrastructure were missing.
A recent progress report by the inspectors proposed terminating the program and asking Metsovo Municipality to return the funds for the project.
The last installments were paid in December 2010.
After an emergency meeting, the municipal council decided to send the case to court.
