Greek armed forces on alert after spike in Turkish air violations

Greece’s armed forces are on standby as Turkish aircraft have conducted a record number of violations of Greek air space over the past two days as part of a Turkish naval exercise in the Marmara Sea, Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, Kathimerini understands.

On Wednesday alone Turkish fighter jets carried out 27 violations of Greek national air space, according to defense sources who said provocations may continue in the coming days.

The Turkish exercise, dubbed Beyaz Firtina, involves 53 Turkish Navy warships, 14 aircraft, and 13 helicopters. It started on Tuesday and is to run until June 1.
