Taxi fares dearer from Monday

Taxi rides will be more expensive come Monday as the value-added tax on fares goes up from 13 to 23 percent following recent legislation passed through Parliament as part of Greece’s ongoing negotiations with its creditors.

The standard rate will go from 0.68 euros/km to 0.74 euros/km, while the double fare, which goes into effect from midnight until 5 a.m., will cost 1.29 euros/km (from 1.19 euros/km).

For short routes, customers will have to pay a minimum rate of 3.44 euros instead of 3.16 euros, while the additional charge for rides to or from the airport will go up to 4.18 euros from 3.87 and for ports, railway and bus stations to 1.17 euros from 1.07.
