NGOs, local officials to help Syrian refugees camped in Athens park
Local officials and representatives of nongovernmental organizations agreed on Friday to find temporary housing for dozens of Syrian refugees who have been camping out at Pedion tou Areos park in central Athens.
The Attica Regional Authority, which is responsible for the park, officials from the City of Athens and representatives of four NGOs took part in the talks.
They also agreed to set up a task force to tackle problems with migrants and refugees in Athens and to draw up a long-term plan for addressing the issue. The regional authority will coordinate the project.
