Unemployment at 25 pct in July

Unemployment in Greece stood at 25 percent in July 2015, compared to 26.3 percent in the same month last year, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announced Thursday. The figure remained unchanged compared to the previous month, the agency added.

According to ELSTAT’s labor force survey, the number of employed came to 3,591,407 people, those unemployed to 1,196,736 and those inactive to 3,296,289 people.

Female unemployment stood at 29.4 percent against 21.5 percent in the male department, while youth unemployment stood at 48.6 percent in the 15-24 age group. Figures for the 25-34 age group stood at 32.2 percent.

Unemployment figures were higher in the regions of Epirus-Western Macedonia (27.1 percent), trailed by the Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian islands (26.6 percent), and Thessaly-Central Greece with 26.2 percent. The lowest unemployment figures were recorded in Aegean Sea areas. (18.4 percent).
