Fiddling while Greece burns

The country again finds itself on a dangerous path. A large number of the militant protests that we see on our TV screens these days are inadmissible and threaten to lead the country to chaos.

Of course some of the protesters’ demands are justified, which explains the current dynamic mobilization.

However, at a time when the country is on the verge of collapse, it is crazy that we are witnessing violent behavior at protests just because some people disagree with the construction of the so-called hot spot centers for registering and screening refugees and migrants.

Back in the days when those in power today were in the opposition, Kathimerini had warned them that their uncritical and out-of-control support for extremist forms of protest was disastrous and totally irresponsible.

They paid no attention back then and today are facing the insatiable populist monster which they fed alongside those they now accuse of being the instigators.
