Giorgos Stasinos, the head of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), the organization that awards licenses to engineers and advises the Greek state on engineering problems, on Monday hinted that the chamber might strike Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who is qualified as an engineer, from its list of members.

Asked by Skai television whether the TEE would strike off Tsipras for voting for austerity measures in Parliament on Sunday, as it indicated that it woud do, Stasinos told Skai the chamber would take "the necessary action." Several prominent members of the government including State Minister Alekos Flambouraris and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis are also engineers.

"Someone who exercizes the profession should be interested in the sector, Stasinos said in apparent reference to provisions in the new legislation that increase social security contributions.
