International Museum Day | Athens | May 18

Greece will be marking International Museum Day on and around Wednesday, May 18. This includes free admission to local museums and archaeological sites around the country on the day. This year’s theme is “Museums and Cultural Landscapes.” A number of museums are putting together special events, including lectures, guided tours, workshops and live music. The National Archaeological Museum (44 Patission) will present a theatrical reading of the 24 rhapsodies of Homer’s Odyssey in association with the Greek National Theater on May 18 (from 10 a.m. to midnight), among other events. At the Acropolis Museum (15 Dionysiou Areopagitou) archaeologists will be meeting with visitors and delivering talks on “The History of the Parthenon Sculptures in Recent Years,” in English and Greek on May 18, while a new video about the Parthenon sculptures will be screened in the atrium of the Parthenon Gallery.
