Vazaios is the new European medley champion

Andreas Vazaios became on Wednesday only the third Greek swimmer ever to win gold in a European Championship.

The Greek champion finished first in the 200-meter medley final clocking a new national record of 1 minute and 58.18 seconds. He had also finished first in the semifinals with 1:58.47.

His victory was so emphatic that he left his rivals at least a second-and-a-half behind in the final.

The gold of the Argyroupoli swimmer is Greece’s second medal in the event in London, after Apostolos Christou landed bronze in 100 meters backstroke on Tuesday.
