Athens homeless get some relief

The City of Athens has placed 25 portable toilets around the capital to cater for the needs of the city's residents as well as the growing homeless population.

This follows a decision earlier this year to extend the opening hours of 11 public toilets. Many of these facilities had remained closed for years for security reasons.

In a statement Wednesday, Vice Mayor for Sanitation Andreas Varelas urged the public to keep these areas clean as they are integral to the “smooth operation and dignity” of the capital.
