PNO announces new 48 hour strike

Ferries were expected to remain tied up at ports across Greece until Sunday, after the umbrella union of Greek seamen, PNO, announced a new strike on Thursday. The industrial action was expected to start at 6 a.m. on Friday and end at 6 a.m. on Sunday.

While the sector is concerned over planned changes to a special tax regime, in an open letter on Thursday Shipping Minister Panayiotis Kouroublis assured seamen that the government was not contemplating tax hikes for those employed in this particular field.

The minister also suggested a meeting between union representatives and government officials on December 15.
