Government aiming for Greece to return to markets in June
The government is reportedly gearing its efforts toward ensuring Greece’s return to international markets by mid-June, provided of course that everything goes to plan and a comprehensive deal – which will include specific measures for debt relief – with international creditors is rubber-stamped at the May 22 Eurogroup.
To this end, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to unveil his government’s two-year plan of action at Thursday’s cabinet meeting, and to highlight the importance of the country’s return to international markets, not least because it will send out the all-important signal that Greece and its economy have finally turned a page.
Meanwhile, in his address to the central committee of ruling SYRIZA on Friday, Tsipras will seek to defend this week’s agreement with bailout inspectors and urge party MPs to vote through highly unpopular measures with the argument that it will be the final hurdle before the country enters the post-bailout era.
