GD ejected from House after spokesman assaults Dendias

Guards in Parliament on Monday ejected neo-Nazi Golden Dawn MPs after party spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris verbally and physically abused Nikos Dendias, a conservative former minister.

The incident occurred as the House’s economic affairs committee debated a government bill detailing new austerity measures. Video footage showed Kasidiaris cursing and apparently pushing Dendias as the latter walked in front of the GD bench while Kasidiaris addressed the House. His GD colleagues joined in the abuse and threw bottles of water at the New Democracy MP.

Committee chair Makis Balaouras responded by ordering the removal of GD MPs from the House.

ND condemned the assault as “provocative and thuggish,” adding that it “showed, once again, that Golden Dawn is facilitating SYRIZA… this time so it can disorient society and pass the toughest and most painful memorandum.”

It is likely that only Kasidiaris will be banned from the House debate. He will also have his salary halved this month as a penalty.
