ATHEX: Quiet trade leads stocks higher at end of losing week

Featuring the lowest daily turnover in the last 20 sessions, the Greek stock market edged higher on Friday, managing to close at the day’s high thanks to some positive corporate news for smaller firms such as Galaxidi Marine Farm and Boutaris.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 778.35 points, adding 0.85 percent to Thursday’s 771.82 points. On a weekly basis it gave up 0.74 percent.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 0.79 percent to 2,077.55 points, while mid-caps contracted 0.18 percent.

Banks advanced 1.14 percent, led by Eurobank, which ascended 2.35 percent. Among other blue chips PPC was up 4.04 percent, Hellenic Exchanges climbed 3.50 percent and Folli Follie lost 1.80 percent.

In total 67 stocks posted gains, 31 took losses and 25 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 59 million euros, down from Thursday’s 109 million.

The general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange in Nicosia increased 0.74 percent to 77.42 points.
