UN envoy in Athens after conference hopes dashed

The United Nations special envoy for Cyprus, Espen Barthe Eide, is scheduled to meet in Athens on Monday with Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias.

The meeting comes on the heels of the Norwegian diplomat’s announcement on Friday that he was ending his shuttle diplomacy between rival ethnic leaders in the bid to continue peace talks in Geneva, because they had failed to agree on the conditions.

According to Foreign Ministry sources, Monday's meeting was arranged after Kotzias spoke on the phone with Eide.
