Athens hotel rates stay competitive

Hoteliers in Athens are keeping their rates at competitive levels this month according to Trivago website data that Kathimerini has seen.

The average online price for a double room comes to 120 euros per night this month in the Greek capital, compared with 126 euros in Rome, 137 euros in Lisbon, 153 euros in Madrid and 180 euros in Paris. In Istanbul hoteliers are desperate to reduce their losses and have brought their rates down from 66 euros last year to 54 euros this month.

The average rate in Athens is up 8.1 percent on last June, while in Madrid hoteliers have upped their rates by 35.4 percent this month on an annual basis.

Meanwhile the Regional Authority of Attica is having a general tourism logo designed for the capital’s region along with some local and thematic logos.

Plans provide for the promotion of its geographical portfolio, including all distinctive destinations within Attica (Piraeus, Kifissia, Glyfada, the islands etc), combined with highlighting the thematic portfolio of tourism products (cultural heritage routes, conferences, gastronomy etc). This forms part of the authority’s five-year plan for promoting Attica tourism.
