Corruption prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki has launched new criminal proceedings in connection with a contract for the procurement of Chinook helicopters, which was signed in 1998 when the disgraced Socialist Akis Tsochatzopoulos was minister of defense.

The accused are the former head of arms procurements at the Defense Ministry, Yiannis Sbokos, and Antonis Kantas, the deputy head of procurements at the Defense Ministry between 1996 and 2002, as well as the legal representatives of the SONAK company, Thomas Liakounakos and Ilias Arkoumaneas.

According to official estimates, the damages incurred by the Greek state total some 5 million euros.
