Sports Digest: Stefanidi lands top Euro athlete award
TRACK & FIELD: Pole-vault sensation Katerina Stefanidi received the award of the best female athlete in track and field in Europe for 2017, having swept its opponents in the World Championship, the European Indoor Championship and all IAAF Golden League meetings she took part in this year. She is the first Greek athlete to secure such a distinction.
SOCCER: Nine-man Panathinaikos somehow managed to beat visiting Larissa 2-1 for the Super League on Monday to get to within six points from the top. The Greens had Lucas Villafanes and Oscar Hiljemark to thank for an unlikely win in injury time, given the red cards shown to Yacouba Sylla and Omri Altman, and the Emanuel Perrone equalizer.
