Justice Ministry to address concerns over ‘pothen esches’ declarations

Alternate Justice Minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos on Thursday said that a new ministerial decision will be issued to address the concerns expressed in a Council of State ruling issued earlier this week about the submission of asset source declarations (“pothen esches”) by judges, journalists and public servants.

The ruling found that a previous ministerial decision requiring that pothen esches declarations also include details about cash and other valuables kept in homes or safe deposit boxes at banks is unconstitutional.

Although the deadline for submission of pothen esches declarations is Friday, less than 70 percent had been submitted by last night. It remained unclear if the government would extended the deadline as it has done in the past.
