Tsipras to receive South Korean PM for talks on technology, shipping

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was on Monday to receive his South Korean counterpart Lee Nak-yon in Athens for talks on economic cooperation in high technology and shipping.

The meeting, scheduled for noon, was to be followed by extended talks between Greek official and the South Korean delegation to Athens.

The key reason for the South Korean premier's visit is a flame-lighting ceremony at Ancient Olympia on Tuesday.

Champions League winner Park Ji-sung will be the first South Korean to carry the flame for the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics after the torch lighting ceremony in Ancient Olympia this week, the Hellenic Olympic Committee confirmed last week.

However, the two leaders are expected to discuss possible areas of economic cooperation with a particular focus on the sectors of high technology, shipyards and agrifood.

Major Korean technology conglomerates such as Samsung have already expressed an interest in cooperation, according to sources.
