Driver walkout to halt Athens metro on Thursday night

There is to be no service on the Athens metro on Thursday night from 9 p.m. onwards after drivers said they would hold a work stoppage over working conditions.

The walkout was called on Monday by the union representing employees of the fixed-track transport operator STASY.

Workers are calling for managers to fulfill their demands for the payment of additional social security contributions which, they say, correspond to the hazardous nature of their job.
