PAME planning rallies in Athens, Thessaloniki and other Greek cities

PAME, a vocal union associated with the Greek Communist Party (KKE), has organized a string of anti-austerity protests on Thursday evening that are expected to cause traffic problems in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities.

In the Greek capital, protesters calling on the government to raise minimum wages and better protect workers’ rights, among other measures, will be gathering as of 6 p.m. at Kanigos, Omonia, Monastiraki and Syntagma Square, as well as outside Athens University on Panepistimiou Street, effectively bringing the downtown area to a standstill.

In Thessaloniki, supporters of the union will gather at the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos on Egnatias Street at 6.30 p.m., while rallies will also be held in dozens more cities and towns, including Patra, Rethymno, Hania, Corinth and Kalamata.
