Policeman, smuggler and 10 undocumented migrants injured in car chase, scuffle

Police arrested a 22-year-old Albanian on Monday after a car chase in Kavala, northern Greece, on charges of trafficking 10 undocumented migrants from Pakistan.

The suspect refused to stop his vehicle when signaled to do so by police for a routine check and sped off. Officers caught up with him at Silia junction outside Kavala after his vehicle overturned.

The suspect reportedly got into a scuffle with one of the officers and tried to grab his revolver. Another officer fired a warning shot in the air before taking aim at the suspect and injuring him in the buttocks and the arm.

The 10 migrants were also injured when the vehicle overturned. All of them, along with the injured suspect and the police officer he attacked, were transferred to a local hospital.
