Greek PM expresses 'shock,' 'solidarity' over Sinai terror attack

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras expressed "shock" and "solidarity" over Friday's terrorist attack in Egypt, one of the deadliest in the region's Islamist insurgency.

"Shocked at the inconceivable tragedy a Sinai inflicted by unrepentant terrorists. At this difficult time, we stand in solidarity on the side of the Egyptian people," Tsipras said in a tweet.

At least 200 people were killed when Islamist militants set off a bomb and opened fire on people attending prayers at a mosque in the country's north Sinai region on Friday.

No group claimed immediate responsibility, but Egyptian security forces have in the past three years been trying to contain a group affiliated with the Islamic State which in the area.
