Rouvikonas targets downtown Athens PPC building

TAGS: Protest, Crime

Members of Rouvikonas on Thursday targeted the central Athens offices of Public Power Corporation in what was the anti-establishment group’s third "raid" on a high-profile state agency this month.

The raid on the Aristidou Street building came at around noon and saw some 20 members of the group, named after the Greek word for Rubicon, scattering flyers around the building calling for PPC to stop cutting the power to consumers who have not paid their bills. They did not cause any damage, according to reports.

“Power, like water, is not a marketable product. Power is a social commodity that no household should be deprived of,” Rouvikonas said in a post on an anarchist website, taking responsibility for Thursday’s campaign.

On Monday, members of the group smashed the glass door and splashed paint on the entrance of the Attica Regional Authority building on Syngrou Avenue, while earlier this month another group slipped past security at the Defense Ministry and made its way to the entrance of the main building in the fortified compound.
