Greek justice slower and less efficient, according to EU scorecard

Greece has scored poorly in the European Justice scorecard, which measures the efficiency, quality and independence of justice and was published on Monday.

According to the report, which used 2012 data, found that the Greek justice systems performance had worsened.

The average time needed to resolve litigious civil and commercial cases in 2012 was 460 days compared to 190 in 2010.

In Lithuania, Luxembourg and Hungary, the average is less than 100 days but in Italy and Malta it takes longer for a case to be heard than in Greece.

According to the report, the clearance rate for first instance cases dropped from 79 percent in 2010 to 59 percent in 2012.
